Rebedding & Repointing

Rebedding involves removing the old mortar and resetting the ridge caps. This process is necessary when the mortar is broken or severely cracked. It is important to be aware that some roofers may use the term "rebedding" interchangeably with "repointing" and it is crucial to understand the difference between the two. The cement supports the ridge cap, and the rebedding process is done after the old mortar is removed. There can be many reasons why rebedding may be necessary.

Repointing is the second and final step in securing the ridge cap to the roof. Most roofers now use a flexible compound for repointing, which is designed to be only 3-5mm thick. This allows for small movements and also helps keep the roof watertight and secure. Terrex Roofing has been using Selleys Pointworks to repair Brisbane roofs for the past 6 years. This product has been extensively tested and has been found to have excellent stability, hold-down ability, and flexural tolerance. It is the first flexible pointing to comply with the new Australian Standard 2050 and it also passed AS 4046.8 at Cyclone Wind Category C4.
